This policy describes how the ChainMemory protocol and the ChainMemory browser extension handle your information. The project is privacy-first by design.
1. Privacy by design
The full content of an AI conversation or memory is never published on the blockchain. Only the following data is anchored on-chain:
A cryptographic hash of the memory (event_hash with domain separator).
A short summary, capped at 280 characters.
Metadata: timestamp, AI ID, category, importance level.
Anyone can verify a memory exists and was not altered using Merkle proofs, without seeing its content.
2. What the browser extension processes
Your API key — stored locally in your browser via chrome.storage.sync. Transmitted only to api.chainmemory.ai for authentication.
AI responses you explicitly save — only when you click "Save to ChainMemory". The extension does not read or transmit page content otherwise.
Local history — a copy is kept in your browser for your own reference. Never leaves your device.
3. What we do not collect
No tracking of browsing activity.
No analytics, telemetry, or usage statistics.
No reading of conversations unless you click "Save".
No personal information (name, email, IP, location).
No cookies. No third-party data sharing or sale.
4. Permissions explained
storage — to persist your API key and local history.
activeTab, scripting — to inject the "Save to ChainMemory" button on supported AI pages.
host_permissions for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and api.chainmemory.ai — to display the button and communicate with the API.
5. Third parties
The extension and the protocol communicate only with api.chainmemory.ai and the ChainMemory blockchain (Chain ID 202604). No data is sent to advertising networks, analytics providers, or any other third party.
6. Data retention and deletion
Local data — deletable any time via the extension's "Disconnect" button or by removing the extension.
On-chain data — by design, blockchain records are permanent and cannot be deleted, modified, or removed by any party. This is the core feature of the protocol.
Important: Because blockchain records are immutable, please consider carefully which content you save. Never save sensitive personal data (passwords, financial details, medical records, etc.) using ChainMemory.
7. Children's privacy
ChainMemory is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
8. Changes to this policy
If this policy is updated, the "Last updated" date above will change. Material changes will be announced on chainmemory.ai.
